Multinational projects handled by Russin & Vecchi have included legal guidance on multibillion-dollar projects involving the extraction of oil and gas within the Sakhalin-1 and -2 framework; government approval of a PSA for the development of shelf deposits within the Sakhalin-3 framework; and assistance with the complex permitting and licensing required by a multitude of local Sakhalin and federal government agencies for contractors and subcontractors engaged in these projects.

During work on these projects, the firm’s lawyers successfully completed many significant assignments, such as:

  • assisting in arranging for the large-scale international maritime transport of equipment and personnel to undeveloped beach sites for the installation of unique horizontal drilling operations;

  • reconciling the latest drilling waste disposal technologies with Russian environmental law and PSA-related requirements;

  • consulting on structuring contractual relations for maximum tax and foreign exchange advantages;

  • structuring contractor and subcontractor obligations for the construction of oil and gas pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant on Sakhalin;

  • structuring transactions for the construction of offshore oil and gas platforms;

  • assisting a foreign liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) trading company in establishment of a joint venture for the construction and operation of a maritime LPG terminal in the Russian Far East;

  • counselling a major company engaged in oil terminal construction and handling a myriad of relevant legal matters.
